Heading South to the Sun

Second stop on our 2017 odyssey is Titusville FL and we stayed overnight in David and Diana "The Great Outdoors" RV Nature Resort which features hundreds of RV sites, RV ports, Park Homes and Resort homes. Truly amazing community designed specifically for RV'ers with tall garages that accommodate the 13 ft headroom of motorhomes. Every level from concrete pad and services to full mansions with accommodation levels between to suit your lifestyle and budget. Great to catch up with our SWAD 2016 friends and hopefully they will be joining us on the WBCCI Alaska caravan in July 2018!

Peacock Feather Bow Ties

Seen in a men's store in Charleston SC a fine set of bow ties made from feathers of peacocks, pheasants, ducks, turkey and goose! Beautiful and delicate selection bound to impress!

Dinner treat!

Four of the top 25 US restaurants in 2016 were located in Charleston SC! No excuse needed for an onsite inspection and tasting at the Charleston Grill. Chef Michelle Weaver's sumptuous venison with foie gras and seared flounder made for a memorable evening!

Fort Sumter - Charleston SC

Last activity of the day at Fort Sumter Flag when they lower the historic US flag with its distinctive, diamond-shaped pattern of 33 stars. The flag was lowered by Union garrison Major Robert Anderson on April 14, 1861 when he surrendered Fort Sumter to the Confederates at the outset of the American Civil War.

Lunch on the road!

Getting from home base to a favored destination takes one or more long days (as much as 400 miles) on the road. Pulling into a rest area every two hours we swop drivers, grab a bite and refresh our thermal coffee mugs. David & Hazel gave me a Melton Mowbray Pork Pie this year which is sliced and eaten cold with either piccalilli or Branson pickle, along with Caesar romaine salad made a wonderful treat.

Living in 200 square feet

Our Airstream is 25 ft long and 8 ft wide which gives 200 square feet of floor space of which approx 50% is free mobility space. The queen size bed is superbly comfortable with minimal passage around it! Bathroom and shower are plenty adequate with folding accordion panels fore and aft giving complete privacy. Galley kitchen amidship with refrigerator/freezer on either side leaves room in the forward part of the camper-trailer for dining area, bunks and entry way. I'm amazed that I can live comfortably in this limited space compared to our 3,000 sq.ft. home! Maybe the outside space under the Zip Dee awning gives illusion of extra space or the temptation to eat out rather than max out our simple cooking facilities helps us adapt to this way of life! Possibly a more modest life goals agenda with lots of touristic visits and plenty of relaxation and lounging mixed with catching up on my reading list backlog means I don't miss my home business and workshop with a long list of projects. One thing I certainly know - I will be very busy when I return home addressing intense and demanding Airstream list of modifications and improvements ... till we go on our next adventure!
