Santa Barbara Mission

Founded in 1786 by the Franciscan order as part of the Spanish mission to colonize the Chumash Indians. Its twin bell towers are unique and the insides are basically the same since 1820. Suffered badly with two earthquakes in 1812 and 1925 but rebuilt and improved and still functions as a parish church under the Roman Catholic archbishop of Los Angeles. Peaceful self guided tour through gardens, cemetery, sanctuary and museum!
